Interoperability Tests Confirm Readiness of Both VoATM and VoIP Solutions.
ALAMEDA, Calif. & MADISON, Ala.-(BUSINESS WIRE)-April 28, 2003-MetaSwitch and Verilink (Nasdaq:VRLK) today announced the successful completion of extensive interoperability testing between the MetaSwitch VP3500 and Verilink's NetEngine Integrated Access Devices (IADs) over both ATM and IP based networks.
Together, MetaSwitch and Verilink offer next generation service providers an end-to-end solution for both Voice over ATM (VoATM) and Voice over IP (VoIP) from the same Central Office and Customer Premises Equipment.
The two vendors' protocol-agnostic approach has been welcomed by many service providers, such as Northwest Telephone (NTI).
"Our business model calls for us to leverage a range of access technologies, including HFC Cable, DSL, ATM over SONET, and Internet-based delivery to broadband subscribers," explained Andrew Metcalfe, President and CEO of NTI. "While most vendors offer solutions that address some of these scenarios, we are looking to companies such as MetaSwitch and Verilink to enable us to serve all our customers with a single switch and IAD platform that we can deploy over multiple access networks."
"Service providers want flexibility from their vendors as they build and grow their networks," said John Lazar, Vice President of Sales and Marketing of MetaSwitch. "The successful testing with Verilink proves that carriers can serve their customers using VoATM, VoIP or both access methods simultaneously without introducing unnecessary complication into the network."
"Since the acquisition of the NetEngine product line earlier this year, Verilink has made a strong commitment to ongoing investment and partnership activities," said Leigh Belden, President and CEO of Verilink. "The fact that the MetaSwitch VP3500 next generation Class 5 switch is able to interoperate with both our VoATM and VoIP implementations makes them a key partner for us."
The MetaSwitch VP3500 Next Generation Class 5 Switch provides both legacy and broadband interfaces, including GR-303, VoATM and VoIP as well as advanced Web-based subscriber services. Service providers are able to simultaneously serve customers in multiple networks with over 80 Class 5 features and services.
The MetaSwitch VP3500 is easy to deploy and scales from 400 to over 250,000 subscribers from a single rack.
The Verilink NetEngine IADs support multiple industry standard voice transport solutions such as: MGCP, AAL2 BLES, NCS, and LCS over a wide range of access networks, including ADSL, SDSL, G.shdsl and T1. This enables service providers to offer cost effective broadband solutions at an affordable price.
