NorVergence Selects the MetaSwitch VP3000 as Its Next Generation Class 5 Voice Switch; MetaSwitch Solution Delivers Innovative Low-Cost Packet Telephony Services
ALAMEDA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 15, 2002--MetaSwitch, a leading supplier of carrier-class, next generation switching solutions, and NorVergence, an emerging Managed Care/Total Care Application provider, today announced that they have successfully validated and installed the MetaSwitch VP3000 Next Generation Class 5 Switch in NorVergence's New Jersey operations center. The companies expect the switch to be delivering packet-based voice and data services to NorVergence's small- and medium-sized business customers in the second quarter of the year.
"From the outset, we knew that we wanted to exploit the latest broadband packetized data-voice technologies to deliver high-quality services over data circuits in the most cost-effective way possible," said Peter Salzano, CEO of NorVergence.
The deployment initially involves a single VP3000 switch transporting packetized voice over data networks to major interexchange carriers (IXCs) for termination to the PSTN. This solution, which NorVergence guarantees will reduce its customers' telecommunications costs by at least 30%, is part of NorVergence's Merged Access Transport Intelligent Xchange or "MATRIX"(TM) System, an alternative to the traditional model. The VP3000's role in the MATRIX solution is the transport of toll-quality packetized voice with 99.999% reliability, achieving cost savings through integrated management and delivery of regional, long distance and Internet access services over a single broadband local loop.
"NorVergence has found the MetaSwitch VP3000 quality/cost relationship to be excellent," added Terry Skemer, NorVergence vice president of engineering. "With the exception of MetaSwitch, all the solutions we looked at were either first generation media gateways -- which required costly connections into the PSTN -- or immature softswitch platforms that could not reliably deliver the broadband voice capabilities we and our carrier partners need. The MetaSwitch VP3000 is a great solution because it enables us to keep the operating costs of transporting data low, which maximizes throughput we can deliver to our customers."
"In the current economic climate, a key consideration in our evaluation was whether our chosen vendor would still be around to support us as we grow over the coming years," said Salzano. "Fortunately, as a division of Data Connection, MetaSwitch can point to a twenty-year track record of successful, long-term relationships with customers such as Verizon and SBC, as well as an extremely secure financial footing."
"In 1999, we identified a market niche in providing best-of-breed voice over broadband services. This success with NorVergence demonstrates the opportunity for the MetaSwitch VP3000 and confirms that we are on track with our product development and market penetration," said John Lazar, vice president of sales and marketing at MetaSwitch. "We are particularly pleased to have been selected as NorVergence's strategic partner because the combination of their business model and data communications expertise has made them successful in the short term and positions them for greater things in the future."
